This is the blog that I will be using to share little tidbits of my life or events that have happened (using this blog is just easier than writing the html myself). Enjoy!
Ok it is rant time...
I am in the process of looking for a part-time job to help supplement my income a little to help pay off some bills sooner. Going thru the application process I have am reminded of the old question that you ask kids "Is it alright to lie? What if it was to save someone's life?" or something like that. What do I mean in this instance? I have come to the point in the application process where I list my educational, professional and general work experience and then I have to spin it to make it sound better, for example I did not just work with some people on a task instead I was part of a team that worked on a project, I did not just write reports for users instead I communicated with staff to obtain specifications for various reports to meet the needs of their department or team. Is this right or wrong, I don't know.
You go to resume services or places that assist you with finding employment and they will help "sell you" or make you more appealing to employers. Isn't that just putting a spin on some words to make it just sound better though the true work or results are the same; it is marketing yourself and I am sick of it. How many times do I have to re-read my resume or application to see if I can make myself sound better to some unknown person who way not even give my life-on-paper a single glance? It ends up being how well can I BS my way into at least having my application looked at so that I have a slim chance of getting the position. It ends up being a vicious game of throwing up your hand, waving it around and screaming really loudly just to get attention - good thing kids don't do that today?!? :-)
